I’m somehow now real, visible, human enough because I too can aspire for that paper! Blessed luscious unicorns, all my dreams have been answered! I’m magically given all the rights, no? *Poof* Nothing has changed in my life really. It’s anticlimactic & I think it might be a good time to be a queer pastor, priest, or divorce lawyer. Just another banner to assuage some privileged guilt. Here’s the thing, it’s an option now to attain privilege and get closer to mainstream legalized recognition of humanity. I think this is vital for very *selective* two people partnerships and people whose partners are migrants, for people in critical need of healthcare, for the resources it brings to otherwise uplift the campaigns of the white, the cis and the rich. As many have stated, @ejeris and I in conversation, thoughtful reflections by @miriamzperez‘s “What Happens Next Is More Than Marriage,” how will this new ascendance shift focus for #tpoc, #twoc, black queers, #gendernonconforming, two spirit, #sdqtpoc, migrant queers, homeless queer & trans community, elder/aging LGBTQ? I mean, now we have marriage, this mainstay institution, the ablebodied wealthy hetero/monog dream is attainable, correct? Don’t get me wrong, I’m a romantic, witnessing people in struggle & in love, nothing is better. Lest we remember: respectability divides. Respectability erases. Where are all those funds being redistributed? What will Gay Inc., the big G do with themselves as others are in paramount struggle — being murdered, incarcerated, sick, and multiply alienated? These are the moments in between and after, how will people show up? How will we continue to strive and show up for eachother who can’t access wealth, tax benefits, and mobility? What about us, whose struggles can’t be solved by marriage? #qtpoc #qpoc#transpeopleofcolor #beyondmarriage
